2014 PIAA State Runner-up Kellan Stout (Mount Lebanon) has committed to Penn State and head coach Cael Sanderson. Stout is a grinder who owns a (100-18) career record that includes a runner-up finish in 2014 at 182 lbs. Kellan was a South West Regional fourth place medalist as a freshman and a PIAA State Qualifier as a sophomore. During his senior season Stout was in the shadow of one of the top seniors in the Nation, Greater Latrobe’s Zack Zavatsky. All four of Stout’s defeats his junior season came at the hands of Zavatsky. The two met in the POWERade Finals, WPIAL Finals, and the PIAA State Finals. As a senior Stout will be a favorite to capture his first career PIAA State Championship. At Penn State Stout predicts to compete at 184 lbs./197 lbs. for the NCAA Champion Nitanny Lions.

 

One of the most improved wrestlers in the State is Bethel Park senior Paul Dunn. The senior has given a commitment to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. As a junior Dunn was able to escape a stacked 145 lbs. WPIAL Tournament by finishing in third place and qualifying for his first career PIAA State Tournament. In the WPIAL Tournament Dunn dropped his first match to Central Catholic senior John Cole (5-4) to drop into the consolation round. With his season on the line Paul rallied back with five straight victories, including a re-match victory over John Cole by fall in (4:50), to earn third place and punch his ticket to Hershey. Dunn could have very easily been satisfied with his WPIAL third place medal but that wasn’t the case with Paul. In his first trip to the GIANT Center Paul was more than impressive. In the first round Paul earned a narrow (9-8) victory over North East Regional Champion Elijah Brown (Easton Area). In the quarterfinals Dunn fell to eventual State Champion T.C. Warner (Cumberland Valley) by fall in (2:47). Again Paul found himself in the consolation bracket with his season on the line. Just as he did a week prior Paul Dunn tore through the consolation bracket to capture third place with four straight victories over the State’s top wrestlers. Paul predicts to compete at 157 lbs./165 lbs. for head coach Pat Santoro.
