#5 Devin Brown Commits to West Virginia University – Plus More

Screen Shot 2014-10-01 at 1.06.18 AM2x PIAA State Champion Devin Brown of Franklin Regional will be heading south to Morgantown, WV to join head coach Sammie Henson and the Mountaineer wrestling program.

Brown burst onto the Pennsylvania wrestling scene in 2012 as a sophomore competing for Saegertown High School. In his sophomore season Brown was a POWERade runner-up and a PIAA Class AA State Champion in his first season competing in the PIAA. In the State finals Brown faced freshman Luke Karam (Bethlehem Catholic) and the two went into overtime. Seconds into sudden victory Devin earned a takedown and took Karam to his back for the fall in (6:12 OT).

As a freshman Devin Brown competed in Ohio for Steubenville High School placing third in the State at 106 lbs. in Division II.

Following his sophomore season Devin made a controversial transfer from Saegertown to Franklin Regional High School. The WPIAL ruled Brown ineligible but, after an appeal, the PIAA declared him eligible for the 2013-2014 season. Once he returned to the mat Devin was practically unstoppable at 106 lbs. for the Panthers. Brown rolled to his first POWERade Championship at 106 lbs. and helped Franklin Regional capture WPIAL and PIAA State Dual Team Championships. Moving up a Class level did not deter Brown who entered the PIAA Class AAA State Championship undefeated and ended his junior season perfect with a (7-6) victory in the State finals at 106 lbs. over Northampton Area freshman Dan Moran.

Brown will enter his senior season with a career record of (127-10) with only one (1) of those defeats occurring in the last two seasons competing in Pennsylvania. Although sightly undersized Devin Brown could develop into a quality 125 lbs. wrestler for Sammie Henson. Brown is currently registered to compete in the Super 32 Challenge this month at 113 lbs. along with teammate and good friend Spencer Lee. It will be interesting to see where the best one – two punch in the State ends up come the regular season.
