Cumberland Valley senior Patrick Duggan is one of Sammie Henson’s first significant recruits since taking over at West Virginia University early this summer. The Mountaineer’s landed Duggan after he had previously given a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech a year ago. During his junior season Duggan backed out of the verbal commitment to explore other possibilities.

Patrick, who will be welcoming younger brother Francis to the Cumberland Valley wrestling team this season, is in search of his fourth PIAA State Medal and first PIAA State Championship. In 2013 Patrick was one win shy of earning the PIAA State Championship, falling in the State finals to Tyler Smith (Franklin Regional). As a freshman Duggan showed maturity against his opponents and battled to a PIAA State Fourth Place finish in his first trip to Hershey. Last season Duggan was one of several studs in a 138 lbs. weight-class. After falling in the semifinals Duggan bounced back to place third making it three in a row on PIAA State Medals.

This off-season Patrick has been working hard to get over the hump and reach the top of the podium. He has added muscle mass and predicts to compete at 145 lbs./152 lbs. in his senior season. Last month Duggan earned All-American status in Fargo, ND at the USAW Junior National Tournament placing eighth. Once again Duggan will help lead a Cumberland Valley program that will be considered a favorite to win the District 3 Championship and challenge the top teams at the PIAA State Dual Team Tournament. Duggan enters his senior season with a (117-17) career record.
