Soaked t-shirts. Sprints. Drilling. Two-hour marathon practices that leave teenagers wiped out and ready for much-needed rest.
It can only mean one thing: The 2014-15 High School Wrestling season is here.
Practices started across District 3 and the state Monday, and PennLive was there and will continue to be throughout the preseason.
Jeremy Elliott and John Tuscano will provide coverage through features, division capsules, returning place-winners , videos and more from District 3 and around the state leading up to the start of the season.

Milton Hershey wrestlers learn life lessons on the mat: ‘We can accomplish anything as a family’
HERSHEY: For two hours, the Milton Hershey wrestling team ran sprints, drilled and spilled sweat on the mat and in the halls of the Spartan Center.
At the end of the session, head coach Jimmy Taylor got his team to sit in a big circle and instructed each wrestler to share what they were thankful for in life.
There were a wide variety of answers. Some said parents. Others mentioned siblings, coaches that care, their wrestling brothers, friends and even the school for changing their lives and giving them a chance to succeed instead of fail.
It was a moving exercise, one that has been going on for years. Taylor’s goal in this case was to instill something positive to think about for kids that might find themselves at a crossroads of making a bad or good decision.
Loaded Boiling Springs wrestling team has ammunition for a state title run
BOILING SPRINGS: Senior Kyle Shoop walked out of the wrestling room at Boiling Springs High School with blood trickling out of his nose.
Inside the Bubblers room, there were teenagers with sweat-drenched shirts drilling and running laps, pushing each other to succeed.
There were no timeouts or easy moments because it was the first practice of the season. Monday’s opening day for winter sports was full tilt for the Bubblers and other wrestling programs around District 3.
“I love this, I love everything about it,” said Grant Bond, who just finished running 23 sprints to close the two-plus hour session. “Even when I’m cutting weight, I love it.
“It’s addicting going and getting your hand raised. You come back in here, work, go out and get your hand raised again. It’s awesome.
“It’s definitely tough, because we come in during the summer for PA Slam [/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][club] and do an hour and a half. We come in here and do two, two and a half hours. It’s a lot more, but winning makes it all worth it.”
Winning has become tradition for the Bubblers. But this could be the year this team takes the next step and adds a state title to the trophy case.
