Hayden Hidlay (Mifflin County)

The Journeymen Classic may not be the Super 32 Challenge in size but the quality of wrestlers is just as impressive. The Journeymen, hosted in Albany, New York featured several big names from Pennsylvania.

The Tournament is split into divisions based on career accomplishments with the highest Division, Bracket A, consisting of mainly Nationally ranked wrestlers. Leading the way in Bracket A was a trio of Keystone State grapplers who won Championship titles.

Hayden Hidlay (Mifflin County) was the star at 152 lbs. as the 2x PIAA State Medalist and N.C. State recruit defeated Penn State recruit and National star Mason Manville (Wyoming Seminary) in the finals (3-1). It was the second time this year that Hayden defeated Manville as the two met in the Junior Greco-Roman Nationals in Fargo over the summer. In the first round Hidlay faced a tough opponent in 3x PIAA State Medalist Nick Monico (Saegertown) and came away with a narrow (1-0) victory.

A pair of Bethlehem Catholic wrestlers shined in their performances at the Journeymen with 2x PIAA State Champion Luke Karam and 2x PIAA State Medalist Mikey Labriola both winning Championship titles. Karam, competing at 130 lbs., dominated the field picking up two regular decisions, a major decision, and earning a fall in the finals. Labriola, a junior and 2015 PIAA State Third Place Medalist, won the 160 lbs. Championship. Mikey had a fall and three regular decisions en route to the Championship.

Other highlights from the “Bracket A” included freshman Patrick Gould (East Stroudsburg Area South) placing second at 106 lbs. and earning an impressive (9-5) win over 2015 PIAA State Medalist Jaret Lane (Southern Columbia Area). PIAA State Runner-up Sam Sasso (Nazareth Area) placed third at 135 lbs. after falling to National star Kanen Storr (Michigan).
