PA Women's Wrestling Competes at Body Bar Nationals in Texas

Pennsylvania Wrestling fans need not forgot about the talented Women Wrestling that our Keystone State produces.

While the PAWF State Tournament was being held in Chambersburg, PA over the weekend – a group of talented PA Women wrestlers made the trip to Irving, Texas for the Body Bar Women’s Nationals.

In the Girls Division Savannah Paulhamus (Montoursville Area) placed fourth at 70 lbs.

In the Schoolgirl Division, girls aged 13-14, two PA wrestlers walked away with medals as Caitlyn Walker (Upper Moreland) placed second at 81 lbs. and Audrianna Beattie (Line Mountain) was crowned Champion at 145 lbs. Beattie was uncontested at 145 lbs. Wrestling fans should remember the name Audrianna Beattie who made National headlines in 2014 after a federal judge ruled Beattie was eligible to compete for the Line Mountain Middle School wrestling team. The school district had previously not allowed girls to compete on the wrestling team.

The Women’s Cadet Division saw the most success for PA Wrestlers with two Cadet National Champions in addition to four All-American finishes.

At 38 kg/84 lbs. Jessica Rudick (Solanco/LAW) made the UWW Cadet National Team by winning the weight uncontested. At 40 kg/88 lbs. Vayle Baker (Benton Area) also made the Cadet National Team winning her weight uncontested. Although both girls made the World Cadet Team without having to win a match they did compete in several exhibition matches against heavier opponents and both never lost.

At 46 kg/101 lbs. Amanda Walker (Upper Moreland) had an impressive showing finishing in third place earning a spot on the Cadet National Team. At 49 kg/108 lbs. Lower Dauphin junior Brianna Vale competed but went (0-2) falling to the eventual sixth place and third place medalists. At 52 kg/115 lbs. Wyalusing Valley Area sophomore Taylor Schum won her opening match but dropped her next two going (1-2).

The third All-American from Pennsylvania was Mackenzie Matta a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School. Matta competed at 65 kg/143 lbs. and went (2-2) finishing in eighth place.

At 78 kg/171 lbs. Greater Johnstown wrestler Mariah Harris fell one win shy of a National Cadet Team birth finishing in fourth place. Harris, the younger sister of former Johnstown wrestler Malcolm Harris, advanced into the semifinals before finishing in fourth place.

In the UWW Junior Division 2013 Ridley High School graduate Cassidy Ferrell competed in the 40-44 kg/88-97 lbs. weight-class where she finished in fourth place. The current Campbellsville University sophomore competed at 101 lbs. this past season where she went (1-2) at the WCWA National Tournament.

Francesca Giorgio, a former Wilson West Lawn wrestler, finished in third place at 59 kg/130 lbs. The Simon Frasier University freshman was a WCWA Women’s College Nationals All-American finishing in fifth this past season. Giorgio earned a spot on the UWW Junior National Team with her third place finish.
