As the 2012-2013 Pennsylvania Wrestling Season approaches here is a look at the projected top dual teams. The Dual Team Rankings are based on a variety of factors including; last seasons results, amount of returning wrestlers with varsity experience, and talent of incoming freshmen. The usual suspects occupy the top tier of teams in both Class AA and AAA this season with returning PIAA State Dual Team Champions Bethlehem Catholic and Canon-McMillan in the #1 position in their respective classes. Canon-McMilan returns 9 of it’s starters from a season ago, including PIAA State Champion Cody Wiercioch and four other returning PIAA State Medalists in Conner Schram, Dalton Macri, Solomon Chishko, and Alex Campbell. The Big Macs are the State’s clear favorites to repeat as State Dual Team Champions in 2013. Likewise in Class AA Bethlehem Catholic returns 7 of its starting wrestlers from a season ago, in addition to several wrestlers who saw varsity action last season. The biggest names are returning PIAA State Champion Darian Cruz, PIAA State Runner-up Zeke Moisey, and PIAA State Medalist Ryan Todora. The BECA Hawks will again be the clear favorites to repeat at PIAA State Dual Team Champions in 2013.
Other teams that will be returning strong line-ups include Class AA schools Bedford, Fort LeBoeuf, Central Columbia, and last seasons Dual Team Runner-up Boiling Springs. In the Class AAA, perennial power Easton Area will once again be one of the State’s top teams in addition to District 1’s Owen J. Roberts, recent power-house Central Dauphin, and District 11’s Parkland. District 10’s Erie McDowell, last season’s State Dual Meet Runners-up, have lost 5 talented starters from last season due to graduation, including 2x PIAA State Champion Steve Spearman and 2012 PIAA State Runner-up Khlique Harris.
Overall, a more accurate look at the State Dual Team Rankings will become clear once the season begins and line-ups are determined.
