Slim PA Field in NHSCA Junior Nationals

Junior Ryan Monk (Dallas) finished in third at 285 lbs.

Pennsylvania had a limited number of participants at the NHSCA Junior Nationals. Overall PA earned six (6) medals in the Tournament. The first Pennsylvania medalist at the NHSCA Junior Nationals came at 160 lbs. when Wyoming Valley West wrestler Cody Cordes finished in fourth place. The 2014 PIAA Class AAA State qualifier advanced to the semifinals where he fell to the eventual Champion. At 170 lbs. 2014 PIAA Class AA State fifth place medalist Corey Hazel duplicated that finish by finishing in fifth at the NHSCA Junior Nationals. Delaware Valley junior Matt Wagner, a former PIAA Class AAA State Qualifier, placed in seventh at 195 lbs.

At 220 lbs. two Pennsylvania wrestlers earned spots on the medal stand. Wyoming Seminary junior Mike Rogers, a 2014 195 lbs. National Prep third place medalist, finished in fourth place at the NHSCA Junior Nationals. Rogers recently completed his first season at Wyoming Seminary after spending his first two seasons at Penns Valley Area High School where he was a 2013 PIAA Class AA State Qualifier. The second medalist at 220 lbs. was GAR Memorial junior Zack Faust who placed eighth. Faust was a 2014 District 2 Champion and North East Regional Class AA qualifier ending his junior season (36-3). The Final Keystone State Medalist at the NHSCA Junior Nationals was Ryan Monk of Dallas High School. Monk, a 2014 PIAA Class AAA State sixth place medalist, finished in third place at 285 lbs. The junior bounced back from a second round defeat, which he avenged in the consolation semifinals, to finish in third with an 0:11 second pin.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
