Undefeated PIAA State Champion Michael Carr (South Fayette) has picked Illinois as his college destination. The #12 ranked recruit from Pennsylvania’s Class of 2016 selected the Fighting Illini and head coach Jim Heffernan over several other NCAA Division I programs.

Carr will compete in the NCAA’s toughest Conference and joins Pennsylvania Native Brooks Black (Blair Academy) as the only other Keystone State wrestler on the team.

As a junior Mike Carr went undefeated (44-0) at 138 lbs. capturing his first PIAA State Championship. Carr scraped his way atop the podium winning four straight matches by decision including a (3-1) victory over Tyler Vath (Saegertown/Edinboro) in the finals. In his sophomore campaign Carr placed fifth at 132 lbs. to earn his first PIAA State Medal.

Mike comes from a long line of talented family members as eldest brother Nick Carr was a PIAA State Champion and middle brother Seth Carr was a PIAA State Finalist.
