State Medalist Francis Duggan Transfers to North Allegheny

Francis Duggan battles Zach Smith in the PIAA State Quarterfinals at 195 lbs.
One of the top freshmen from a season ago will be on the move and should make a giant impact on his new team.
Cumberland Valley’s Francis Duggan will be heading west to the Keystone State’s hotbed. Duggan, the younger brother of 2x PIAA State runner-up and 4x Medalist Patrick Duggan, will join the North Allegheny Tiger’s and new head coach Sonny Abe.
Francis stormed up the PIAA ranks as a rookie competing at 195 lbs. finishing second at the SC Regional and sixth at the PIAA State Tournament. The young stud had an impressive (40-8) season record placing first at the Escape The Rock Tournament.

Older brother Patrick will now only be an hour away in Morgantown, WV as he looks to excel for head coach Sam Henson and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Overall Francis will have an immediate impact on the North Allegheny program as he should be considered a PIAA State Title contender in all three of his remaining years. Ironically two of Duggan’s toughest matches came at the PIAA State Tournament against North Allegheny’s Zach Smith . In the quarterfinals Duggan survived a (4-3) victory over Smith and advanced into the PIAA State Semifinals where he fell to eventual 2x PIAA State Champion Jan Johnson (Governor Mifflin). In the consolation semifinals Duggan again met Smith but this time it was the Tiger who came out on top (3-1). Zach Smith has since graduated and will attend Arizona State.
North Allegheny was already on the radar to compete for a WPIAL Championship and make another deep run at the PIAA State Dual Team Championships before the arrival of Duggan. They will return six WPIAL Tournament Qualifiers and PIAA State Fourth Place Medalist Jake Hinkson in 2016. Additionally a healthy Luke Landefeld and A.J. Boeh, who both missed the individual post-season, will add more depth in the middle-weights.
