Wiercioch Denied Transfer
According to Mike Kovak of the Observer-Reporter.com, junior Cody Wiercioch, who transfered from Charleroi to Canon-McMillan earlier this year, was ruled ineligible by the WPIAL Board of Control on Monday October 17th. The vote was reportedly an 8-6 decision. Wiercioch and his family have the opportunity to appeal the ruling to the PIAA Board of Control, however, if ruled ineligible by the PIAA, Cody would be forced to sit out his junior year. Wiercioch was a PowerADE and State Champion as a freshmen at 152 lbs. and a State runner-up last season at 160 lbs.
The ruling by the WPIAL Board comes a month after a District 4 Board ruled Zain Retherford ineligible to wrestle this season. Retherford, also a junior this year, transfered from Line Mountain to Benton. Like Wiercioch, Retherford has the opportunity to appeal the ruling to the PIAA Board, but would be forced to sit out his junior season if the PIAA Board affirmed the ruling. Retherford was a State Champion his freshmen year at 103 lbs. and a third place finisher last season at 112 lbs.
