It came as no surprise when Bethlehem Catholic’s 2012 PIAA State AA 106 lbs. Champion Darian Cruz committed to Lehigh University. His older brother Randy is a freshman for the Mountain Hawks and Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro is a Bethlehem Catholic graduate. Cruz has been one of the Keystone’s State top light-weight wrestlers for the past three years. He will enter his senior year with a career record of 107-8 with accolades that include, two Beast of the East Championships, 2010 Super 32 Challenge Champion, 2011 103 lbs. PIAA State AA Third Place, and 2012 106 lbs. PIAA State AA Champion.

According to the Express-Times’ Brad Wilson, Darian Cruz predicts to wrestle in the 120 lbs. weight class this season and should compete at 125 lbs. for Lehigh. The BECA star should have another outstanding season in 2012-2013 with the potential to earn his third Beast of the East title, his first Walsh-Jesuit Ironman title, and his second PIAA State AA Championship.
