The 2012-2013 PIAA Wrestling Season has officially began and, despite the lack of chatter on some of wrestling fan’s most favorite discussion forums, it looks as if yet another exciting season is upon us. After a weekend of great competition, our Season’s first Rankings Edition is rather predictable with many of PA’s top wrestlers returning from a season ago. One of the bigger jumps in rankings was Norristown senior Brett Harner who has made the jump to 182 lbs. where he is now ranked #1 in the State in front of Pre-Season favorite Jake Taylor (Bald Eagle Area). It was a tough decision between the two accomplished wrestlers especially after each had successful off-seasons following their March PIAA Tournament in which both earned PIAA Medals. Returning 2x PIAA State Third Place finisher Solomon Chishko (Canon McMillan) will most likely miss out on his third POWERade Tournament as he is stil recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered at the Super 32 Challenge in late October. According to head coach Chris Mary Chishko should return to the mats in early 2013.
Hard Work: When PA Wrestling Ranking’s, headed by Chuck Johnson, joined me at PA Power Rankings, forming PA Power Wrestling last off-season, we were excited about the opportunity to provide Pennsylvania with the most in-depth rankings we could. Myself, Chuck Johnson, Josh Phillips and Ian Crampton have each worked diligently the past week on compiling the season’s first edition of State and Regional Rankings. Early season rankings are always the most difficult in my opinion due to wrestlers jumping around weight classes, teams not competing in their first tournament or dual meet until the second weekend in December, etc. Each of us will be heading out this weekend to Tournament’s across the State to view the top wrestlers and begin to prepare out next Rankings Edition which will be released on December 19/20. PA Power Wrestling would also not be in the position we are today if it was not for behind-the-scene work by Thomas Shovlin who has made great strides in growing our business.
