General McLane Wins 34th Annual Tool City Tournament

The dust has settled on the District 10 wrestling scene as the Tool City Tournament at Meadville gave fans a better outlook of the regions top wrestlers. It was not only District 10 teams that competed at the Tool City Tournament with District 3’s Boiling Springs continuing their season’s success in addition to District 9 programs such as DuBois Area. Many of the top wrestlers were making season debuts at lower weight classes with many finding success.

2012 POWERade runner-up Devon Brown (Saegertown) met 2012 King of the Mountain Champion Joe Wheeling (General McLane) at 106 lbs. Devon Brown, a sophomore competing in his first season in Pennsylvania after earning a State Tournament third place medal in Ohio last season as a freshman, continued his dominance over top ranked wrestlers with a victory of Wheeling by fall in (3:52). 2012 Class AA PIAA State runner-up at 106 lbs. Korbin Myers (Boiling Springs) was the top seed at 113 lbs. and would face 2x PIAA State Medalist Jake Gromacki (Erie Cathedral Prep) in the finals. Sophomore Korbin Myers, who finished in third place at this seasons King of the Mountain Tournament following an upset defeat to freshman Hayden Hidlay (Mifflin County), picked up an impressive victory over Gromacki at 113 lbs. with a (2-1) victory over the junior.

Boiling Springs sophomore Grant Bond made his season debut at 120 lbs. and claimed the Tool City Championship with a (8-2) victory over Erie McDowell’s senior Paul Dietz. Another Erie McDowell grappler fell short in the Tool City finals at 132 lbs. when senior Nick Gibson met senior Christian Stone (Clearfield Area) a 3x State Tournament Qualifier. The two battled into sudden-victory when Stone, who was making his season debut at 132 lbs., was able to earn a fall in (6:57 in O.T.) to claim the Tool City Title.

In another exciting finals bout, 2x PIAA State Class AA Medalist senior Evan Daley (Fort LeBoeuf) met senior Cameron Cyphert (Cochranton), also a PIAA State Class AA Medalist, at 220 lbs. The two ended regulation tied at (4-4) as Daley was able to secure a takedown and the victory in overtime with a (6-4 OT) score over Cyphert.
