PIAA State Dual Team Quarter-Finals Set in Hershey

After one day of action at the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA the quarter-final rounds are set in both Class AA and AAA. Thursday saw some close matches and not so close matches. Take returning PIAA Class AA State Champions Bethlehem Catholic who didn’t give up a point against Lower Moreland in a (81-0) thrashing. District 3 runner-up Bermudian Springs won their second straight match of the 2013 State Team Championships with a (34-29) victory over WPIAL’s Champion Burrell. Other Class AA matches that came down to the wire included District 3 Champion Boiling Springs over Saegertown (31-25), District 6 Champion West Branch over South Fayette (33-26), and District 10 Champion Reynolds over Saucon Valley (35-29).
In Class AAA there were no real surprises as the expected teams rolled into the quarter-final round. District 9 Champions DuBois Area give District 11 Champions Easton Area a closer match than most would expect. DuBois was led by senior Landon Hanna’s impressive victory over returning PIAA State Medalist Tyler Greene by fall in (0:17 seconds) at 195 lbs. In the end Easton’s line-up was to much for DuBois to pull off a stunning upset as they will fall into the consolation round to face District 12 Champion La Salle College.
