Central Dauphin’s Tyson Dippery earned a 2-1 victory in Tie-Breaker at 138 lbs. against Franklin Regionals Josh Maruca

The 2013 PIAA State Dual Team Championships have lived up to fans expectations. Both 2012 PIAA State Champions Canon-McMillan and Bethlehem Catholic advanced to the finals with strong semi-final performances to set up what should be two very closely contested matches. In Class AAA, returning State 3rd place finisher Central Dauphin is out for revenge as they look to earn their 5th State title in just six seasons. They will face WPIAL Power Canon-McMillan who outlasted Easton Area (37-35) in the Semi-Finals. Easton came out to a stronge lead recording two falls in the first two matches, but in the end Canon-Mac was to much for the Red Rovers.

The Central Dauphin Rams advanced to the finals with a decisive victory over Franklin Regional (41-25). Central Dauphin’s State Record of 95 wins in a row was broken when the Rams fell to Canon-McMillan in the Semi-Final round last season. Since that defeat Central Dauphin has begun a new win streak with 26  victories in a row. Both teams lost impact wrestlers due to graduation but both return some of the State’s top competitors. Canon-McMillan has been without 2x PIAA State Third Place Medalist Solomon Chishko all season; regardless, the WPIAL Champions have a handful of stars who can carry the line-up. Tomorrows match will ultimately come down to match-ups and bonus points, both areas that Central Dauphin has excelled in this post-season thus far.

In Class AA Bethlehem Catholic had no troubling defeating District 3 runner-up Bermudian Springs (49-9) in the Semi-Final round. The 2x PIAA Class AA State Champions will face District 10 Champion Reynolds in a match-up of two top programs. Reynolds was albe to hold off 2012 PIAA State Runner-up Boiling Springs in the Semi-Finals with a (31-20) victory over the District 3 Champions. Bethlehem has been dominate in Hershey but Reynolds is no stranger to closely contested matches. The Reynolds Wrestling Program is one filled with a rich history of success and expect them to arrive prepared in the State AA Finals tomorrow afternoon.
