Champions Crowned in SC Region as Marsteller downs Peppelman
The first 56 wrestlers have qualified for the 2013 PIAA State Class AAA Tournament in two weeks at the GIANT Center. In the premier bout of the evening undefeated junior Chance Marsteller (Kennard-Dale) defeated Central Dauphin’s Garrett Peppelman (7-2) in the finals at 160 lbs. Marsteller was able to secure three takedowns and an escape and nearly pinned Peppelman during a flurry. Overall Marsteller was able to maintain control over Peppelman from then neutral position never giving up an offensive point. The two State Champions have a strong possibility of meeting again in two weeks at the PIAA State Tournament.
Wrestling for the second week and second year in a row Garret Hammond and TC Warner tangled in a intense battle of familier foes. Warner was able to hold on for a (3-2) win over the returning State Champion even despite almost giving up a takedown in the final seconds of the match. Hammond got in deep on a leg while Warner attempted to fight off the shot until the buzzer. The Chambersburg coaches were visibly upset after the no-call. Last season Hammond defeated Warner four times including in the Class AAA State finals at 145 lbs. but this season Warner has closed the gap by defeating the Penn State recruit twice in the last two weeks.
