Following this weekend’s action across the Keystone State the 2013 PIAA State Tournament brackets will be set. Excluding the South Central Class AAA Regional, all regional tournaments will take place this weekend with the PIAA State Tournament beginning next Thursday at the GIANT Center in Hershey. Some of the most competitive wrestling of the season takes place at Regional Tournaments as the State’s top tier wrestlers compete for qualification spots at the PIAA State Tournament. This season is no different as potential match-ups could feature State Champions and State Medalists meeting head-to-head in several Regions.
In the Class AA SE Regional 2012 State Champion Ryan Diehl (Trinity) and 2012 State runner-up Zeke Moisey (Bethlehem Catholic) are on a collision course at 126 lbs. In the Class AAA South East Regional Tournament four returning PIAA State Medalists are competing for the top three spots at 113 lbs. Undefeated junior Scott Parker (Pennridge) placed fourth last season at 106 lbs. as senior Zach Fuentus (Norristown Area) placed fifth last season at 106 lbs. The two are on opposite sides of the bracket at 113 lbs. but will have to get through fellow PIAA State Medalists Derek Gulotta (Owen J. Roberts) and Dan Martoccio (Council Rock South). Returning PIAA State Champion Matt McCutcheon (Kiski Area) and 2012 PIAA State runner-up Jake Hart (Hampton) may meet in the 195 lbs. finals at the WPIAL Class AAA Tournament.
