Pittsburgh’s Eric Hong Wins Fifth Straight PJW State Championship
Not only did Eric Hong capture his fifth straight Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship title this season, he also earned his seventh career PJW Medal in 10 appearances at the State Tournament. In 2013 competing at 107 lbs. Hong faced a tough field of competitors that included 2013 PIAA State Fourth Place finisher Jacob Wasser (Palisades). The two met in the semi-finals as Hong advanced into the finals with a major decision (8-0) over the PIAA State Medalist. In the finals Hong faced Emmaus freshman Lucas Schaf, a District 11 Sixth Place Medalist who went (27-9) in his first year of high school competition. Hong had no trouble whatsoever earning is fifth career PJW State Championship with a (12-0) major decision victory in the finals. In total Hong picked up two falls and two major decisions without giving up an offensive point.
Hong is an eighth grade student at Riverview Junior/Senior High School in Oakmont, PA just outside of Pittsburgh. Hong will attend Georgetown Preparatory School next season, a National Prep school located in Bethesda, Maryland.
