Class AAA and Class AA State Rankings have been updated following a multitude of Holiday Tournaments. The top wrestlers are starting to fall into place and weights are being established.
As expected the WPIAL is dominating. In Class AAA 8 of 14 weight classes feature District 7 wrestlers at the top spot. Leading the way is Franklin Regional which has an astonishing 5 wrestlers ranked #1. Greater Latrobe adds two more wrestlers to the WPIAL’s #1 ranked wrestlers with Luke Pletcher (120 lbs.) and Zack Zavatsky (182 lbs.). The POWERade Tournament helped determine many of the top spots.
Continuing to be missing from the State Rankings are two PIAA State Champions, Joe Galasso (Father Judge) and Solomon Chishko (Canon-McMillan). Chishko suffered an injury at the Ironman Tournament early in December. Galasso has not hit the mats yet this season but is expected to return this month. Both seniors will add to an already deep 145 lbs. weight-class.
In Class AA there is a more balanced distribution of regions represented at the top spots with the Southeast Regional leading with 5 #1 Ranked wrestlers and the Northwest Regional having 4 #1 Ranked wrestlers. Class AA power Bethlehem Catholic dominates the rankings with 2 top ranked wrestlers, Luke Karam (113 lbs.) and Zeke Moisey (126 lbs.).
