Boiling Springs a match-up nightmare, wins 34-30 over Big Spring

NEWVILLE: It’s a nightmare trying to bump, position and gain favorable match-ups against the Boiling Springs wrestling team.

The Bubblers are deep. They have sledgehammers throughout the lineup and each wrestler sells out for the team.

And this group racks up bonus points.

In droves.

Big Spring managed an even split with the Bubblers in this Mid-Penn Colonial Division rivalry, but it wasn’t enough. Not with Rod Wright’s crew earning six bonus-point wins to squeak out a satisfying 34-30 decision.

“It’s nice to turn it around from last year,” Wright said of the 43-23 setback to the Bulldogs last season. “We didn’t wrestle well last year, and Big Spring did. This year, we were able to turn the tables a little bit.

“It’s a cross field or backyard rivalry. I don’t consider it that way, but the old timers do. We were fortunate to get aligned in the division, and it’s a good match for the fans.”

Right down to the last bout.

The Bubblers did their damage throughout the lineup. Kyle Taylor (195) and Noah Davis (285) delivered huge falls, with Korbin Myers (120), A.J. Kostyak (126) and Travis Wickard (182) earning tech falls.

Connor Murphy (160) turned a swing match with Chance Rayhart into a not-so-close 14-3 major.

“They saved bonus points, and we didn’t,” Bulldogs head coach Nate Gutshall said. “They have a big heavyweight, I mean, he is a monster.
