Individual Post-Season Gets Underway Across PA

Sectional and District Tournaments have kicked-off across many Regions in Pennsylvania. Most Tournaments are one-day competitions and due to the winter weather several District 1 sectionals have been moved to Sunday. The always informative and complete PA-Wrestling.com will be providing brackets from the entire State throughout the Post-Season. Escape Sports will also be providing updated brackets throughout the post-season. Below is a look at both Class AA and AAA post-season information and notable changes in weights by the top wrestlers.
Class AAA
South East Regional
There are seven (7) sectional tournaments that will take place this weekend. Advancing wrestlers will compete in one of three District 1 Tournaments next weekend. Several notes from District 1 in terms of where wrestlers have ended up can be found below.
Returning PIAA State Medalist Edgar Garcia (Avon Grove) dropped to 106 lbs. Garnet Valley’s freshman Matt Marino dropped to 113 lbs. and older brother Mike Marino, a PIAA State Medalist, dropped to 120 lbs. Undefeated sophomore Wade Cummings (Downingtown East) also dropped to 120 lbs. Boyertown Area senior Eddie Kriczky dropped to 132 lbs. Joey Staley (Methacton) dropped to 138 lbs. Downingtown West’s Gabe Hale dropped to 170 lbs. Pennridge junior Ezra Outlaw dropped to 195 lbs.
North East Regional
The District 2 Tournament takes place next weekend however the last regular season tournament, the Lackawanna League Championships, will feature several District 2 Programs this weekend. The District 11 Tournament takes place next weekend. In District 12 two Tournaments will take place this weekend, the District 12 Catholic League Tournament and the District 12 Public League Tournament. Advancing wrestlers move on to the District 12 Tournament next weekend. Brackets for District 12 can be found at the PA-Wrestling.com website.
Several notes from District 12 in terms of where wrestlers have ended up include… LaSalle College sophomore Anthony Piscopo dropped to 182 lbs. Archbishop Wood’s PIAA State Qualifier Jacob Cooper remains sidelined due to an injury at 220 lbs. Central High School’s 220 lbs. wrestler Sam Reid is not entered in the Tournament.
South Central Regional
The Class AAA District 3 sectional tournaments take place this weekend and all 5 sectional seeds can be found at the PIAA District 3 website below. The Road to Hershey website will as always provide information and results on both Class AA and AAA District 3.
Several notes from District 3 in terms of where wrestlers have ended up include… freshman Zurich Storm (New Oxford) dropping to 106 lbs. returning State Qualifier Devin Schnupp (Warwick) returns to 106 lbs. PIAA State Medalist Zach Ulerick (Middletown Area) makes his season debut at 120 lbs. James Buchanan senior Austin Tucker dropped to 126 lbs., Tristian Skelly (Mechanicsburg Area) dropped to 138 lbs., Garden Spot senior Alex Aharonian entered at 145 lbs., returning PIAA State Qualifier Joey Goodhart (Hempfield) entered the post-season at 285 lbs.
South West Regional
The WPIAL Class AAA post-season Tournament begins next weekend.
North West Regional
The District 6 Tournament takes place next weekend and brackets will be released at PA-Wrestling.com. The District 8, Pittsburgh City League, Tournament takes place this weekend with advancing wrestlers continuing on to the NW Regional Tournament. The combined District 4 and District 9 Tournament will take place next weekend as well. The District 10 Tournament takes place this weekend and brackets can be found at the Escape Sports website here.
Class AA
South East Regional
The combined District 1 and District 12 Tournament takes place next weekend. In District 3 both sectional Tournaments take place this weekend with advancing wrestlers continuing next weekend to the District 3 Tournament. Sectional seeds for District 3 can be found at the Road to Hershey. The District 11 Tournament takes place next weekend. Notes from the District 3 Sectional seeds include… Bishop McDevitt senior Terrence White note being entered.
North East Regional
In District 4 three (3) sectional tournaments will take place this weekend. Brackets for the sectional can be found here. Advancing wrestlers will continue to the District 4 Tournament next weekend. The District 2 Tournament takes place next weekend. Notes from District 5 include… Kobe Galentine (Montgomery Area) enters the post-season at 138 lbs. Former PIAA State Champion Nazar Mironenko (Mifflinburg Area) unable to make a return at 285 lbs.
South West Regional
The three (3) sectional AA Tournaments take place this weekend with advancing wrestlers moving on to the WPIAL Class AA Tournament next weekend.
North West Regional
The three (3) District 10 Class AA sectional tournaments take place this weekend. Brackets can be found here.
