Class AAA Results Are In as State Champ Tyler Smith Falls

#2 Tyler Smith (Franklin Regional) was unable to shake off #3 Chase Zemenak (Nazareth Area) at 132 lbs. Smith, a returning PIAA State Champion, was upset by Penn Trafford freshman #1 Cameron Coy in the WPIAL finals last week and over just didn’t look like the Tyler Smith who handed State Champion Sam Krivus (Hempfield Area) two defeats this season. Smith defeated Zemenak in the PIAA State Team Duals by a (1-0). In an almost identical match Zemenak was able to ride Smith for the entire second period to reverse the defeat and win (3-0) to advance into the semifinals.

#6 Zach Elvin (Central Dauphin) was unable to escape #9 Tyler Buckiso (Peters Township) at 132 lbs. falling (1-0) as the WPIAL third place finisher rode the Ram junior out in the third period. Buckiso score a controversial escape in the second period. As Elvin was holding his leg/foot Buckiso’s shoe fell off for the second in the match and was able to earn an escape. #3 Patrick Duggan (Cumberland Valley) needed overtime to defeat #6 Kaleb Young (Punxsutawney Area) with a takedown in sudden victory (5-3 SV). #2 and #3 at 160 lbs. squared off as #2 Booby Fehr (Northampton Area) fell to #3 Ehrin Lee (Titusville) in tie-breaker (3-2 TB). #13 Ian Shannon (Carlisle Area) knocked-off #5 Austin Bell (Belle Vernon Area) with a (5-4) decision to advance to the semifinals.
At 182 lbs. #6 Alex Price (North Penn) secured an impressive (7-3) win over #4 Kyle Koser (Northern York) and advanced into the semifinals. In another marquee match-up undefeated senior #1 Tom Sleigh (DuBois Area) suffered his first defeat of the season at the hands of #2 Jan Johnson (Governor Mifflin). At 145 lbs. returning PIAA State Champions #1 Solomon Chishko (Canon-McMillan) and #2 Joe Galasso (Father Judge) both advanced into the semifinals.
