Solanco senior Thomas Haines celebrates his fourth PIAA State Championship with Clearfield’s Jerry Maurey.

Never before have two wrestlers ended their careers capturing their fourth PIAA State Championship in the same season. Thomas Haines became the 12th wrestler in PIAA History to win four PIAA State Championships just four weights after Chance Marsteller did it at 170 lbs. The Ohio State recruit downed #4 Pat Finn (Pottsgrove) in the finals (6-1) at 285 lbs. In his senior season Haines bumped up from 220 lbs. where he won his last three PIAA State Championships (except in 2011 when the weight was still 215 lbs.). The bigger and stronger Haines was still quick and nimble picking up points from neutral and the top position. Haines ends his career at Solanco with a record of (174-5). After having his hand raised Thomas Haines was congratulated by Clearfield wrestler Jerry Maurey who was a 4x undefeated PIAA State Champion between the years of 1946 – 1950 with a career record of (67-0-0).[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
