Josh Maruca Commits to Arizona State Sun Devils
Josh Maruca heated up like the desert sun this summer and fittingly he has chosen the Arizona State Sun Devils as his college choice. The rising junior is a 3x PIAA State Medalist for the State Champion Franklin Regional squad and will be a contender for his first individual State Championship as a senior. At the PIAA State Tournament Josh finished fifth in both his freshman and sophomore seasons while earning third place in 2014. He enters his senior season with a career record of 120-21. Maruca is also in search of his first career POWERade Championship having three medals to his name already. The Panther has finished fourth twice and was a 2013 runner-up.
Maruca grabbed headlines last month when he travelled to Fargo, ND and place third in the Nation at 145 lba. Along the way Josh upended some of the Nation’s top wrestlers and finished ahead of teammate Michael Kemerer. Arizona State also made headlines this off-season with the hiring of former Olympic Freestyle Head Coach Zeke Jones. The former UPENN head coach has already been stacking the recruits up including two of the best in the Nation, brothers Anthony and Zahid Valencia, of California. Maruca is an in-your-face wrestler who is solid from all three positions. He predicts as a 149 lbs. wrestler for the Sun Devils.
