Lock Haven Fall Classic Filled With PA Stars

The Lock Haven Fall Classic has been one of the top pre-season tournaments for quite some time and being hosted in the Keystone State has always attracted wrestlers from across the Nation. Hosted at Lock Haven University many of the top names in Pennsylvania made the trip to compete.

Brookville Area had an impressive showing with a total of 6 medalists. A Pennsylvania wrestler was crowned Champion in 10 of 13 weight-classes and a total of three weights consisted of all Keystone State medalists.

At 134 lbs. a pair of PIAA State Medalists met in the finals with junior KJ Fenstermacher (Liberty) and sophomore Andrew Wert (Central Dauphin) clashing. Fenstermacher was seventh in the State last season at 113 lbs. but has apparently grown over the summer. In the finals it was KJ who defeated Andrew Wert (2-0) in the finals. Arguably the most impressive performance of the Tournament was Rui Evanitsky (Scranton) at 140 lbs. who captured the Championship over Tate Ortz (Brookville Area). The senior Evanitsky has never made a trip to the PIAA State Tournament placing fifth last season in the Region as a junior but that did not stop him from taking down a talented wrestler. Evanitsky earned a major decision over 2x PIAA State 3rd Place Medalist Taylor Ortz in the finals. Ortz, a Clarion recruit, competed at 120 lbs. last season.

Recent Army commitment Jimmy Saylor (Easton Area) claimed the Championship at 154 lbs. with a narrow decision in the finals. At 162 lbs. surprise junior Xavier Barber (Dallas) claimed the Championship over fellow District 2 wrestler Andrew Burgette (Scranton). Barber earned a (2-0 SV) win over Burgette who advanced into the finals with several impressive wins. Burgette defeated PIAA State Qualifier Trent Hidlay (Mifflin County) and PIAA State Third Place Medalist James Duffy (Smethport Area) along the way. Sophomore Trent Hidlay rebounded to place third.

At 172 lbs. PIAA State Medalist Noah Stewart (Mifflin County) won the Championship over Charlie Andrews (North Penn – Liberty) by decision (6-0). Tunkhannock Area senior Dalton Ray, who lost to Stewart (1-0) in the semifinals, finished in third place. The remaining four weights were won by Pennsylvania wrestlers with Adam Soldridge (Bethlehem Catholic), Trey Hartsock (Mifflin County), Zach Sintobin (Clarion Area) and Andrew Gunning (Liberty) all winning Championship titles.
