The fourth annual Grapple in the Garden was headlined by Pennsylvania product Matt Cimato (LaSalle College/Drexel) after he defeated former NCAA Champion Jason Tsirtsis of Northwestern. Cimato’s (7-1) victory over one of the top college wrestlers helped propel Drexel to a (21-20) dual meet victory over the BIG 10 program. Tsirtsis entered the dual ranked #1 in the Nation at 149 lbs. by Flo while Cimato came in ranked #20. The former 2x PIAA State Medalist for LaSalle College followed up his impressive win with a (3-2) decision over Illinois wrestler Kyle Langenderfer who was ranked #16 at 149 lbs. by Flo. After going undefeated on the day Cimato, a redshirt junior and 2015 NCAA Qualifier, is now (16-2) on the season and is sure to climb the National Rankings this week.
Revenge may have taken well over two years but Tyson Dippery (Central Dauphin/Rutgers) will be satisfied with his performance at the Grapple in the Garden. Dippery, a redshirt sophomore, fell in the 2013 PIAA State Finals at 138 lbs. to Joey Glasso (Father Judge) in sudden victory (3-1 SV) to end his successful career at Central Dauphin. Fast forward three seasons and Glasso is now a redshirt freshman for Cornell and Dippery is a redshirt sophomore for Rutgers. The two faced off at 149 lbs. with Dippery earning a hard fought (5-4) decision. It was the second win of the day for Tyson who now holds a (7-3) season record.
Cimato and Dippery were just two of a large group of Pennsylvania wrestlers who competed in Madison Square Garden. Full results can be found here.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
