Phillippi and Coy Claim WCCA Championships

For senior #1 Micky Phillippi (Derry Area) the sixth time’s a charm against his friend and local rival #1 Luke Pletcher (Greater Latrobe). Over the last twelve months the pair have met a total of six times and prior to Saturday night Pletcher has won all the meetings. Both own two PIAA State Championships each, both are heading to NCAA Division I Programs next year, and the two grew up within miles of each other.

It is difficult to wrestle someone you are overly familiar with, especially high level wrestlers such as Pletcher and Phillippi, but for three weeks in a row for the last two seasons that is exactly what the pair did. On what is likely their final meeting of their high school careers Micky finally clawed to a win. Pletcher is heading west to Ohio State while Micky will attend ACC program Virginia.
