#1 Curry and #2 Bulsak Claim Allegheny County Titles

#1 Gage Curry (North Hills) won his fourth Allegheny County Championship on Sunday night and the American University recruit continued his undefeated senior season. Curry defeated #18 Alex Salas (Pine-Richland) in the 113 lbs. finals (6-0).

The featured bout of the finals at 182 lbs. lived up to the hype as PIAA State Champion #2 Greg Bulsak (South Park) downed #1 Jake Woodley (North Allegheny) in overtime (5-3 SV). After two periods the match was knotted (1-1) with each wrestler earning escapes. Jake Woodley secured a takedown on the Clarion recruit to go ahead (3-1). Bulsak was able to gain a reversal and narrowly missed back points to force overtime (3-3). In sudden victory Woodley was in deep on a double leg and when attempting to finish Bulsak improved his position securing a takedown on the edge of the mat. Both Woodley and head coach Sunny Abe strongly disagreed with call arguing that the North Allegheny Tiger still had a lock on Bulsak’s leg. Regardless the call stood and Greg Bulsak had his hand raised in a battle of two very talented grapplers.

At 160 lbs. Bulsak’s teammate #1 Jake Wentzel (South Park) earned a hard fought (1-0) decision over #8 Cody Jenkins (South Allegheny) in match between familiar opponents. At 195 lbs. #4 Eli Grape (Upper St. Clair) won an impressive ultimate tiebreaker win over #3 Francis Duggan (North Allegheny) by escaping in (3-2 UTB).
