Pennsylvania Women Wrestlers Shine at Gotham City Open
The 3rd Annual Beat The Streets Gotham City Girls Open took place over the weekend at Columbia University in New York City. Pennsylvania was well represented in the Cadet and Junior Divisions competing against wrestlers from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Pennsylvania Women’s Wrestling star Vayle-Rae Baker continued to do what she does best and that is take out everyone in her path. The Benton Area sophomore won Gotham City Championships in both Cadet and Junior Divisions. Joining her was fellow PA star Amanda Walker (Upper Moreland) who also won Championships in both Cadet and Junior.
Overall Pennsylvania had eight Medalists in the Cadet Division half of which were Tournament Champions. Caitlyn Walker (Upper Moreland) won the 84 lbs. title and Montana DeLawder (Gettysburg) won 88 lbs. while Kayla Kehr (Spring Grove Area) took second to Baker at 95 lbs.
In the Junior Division six Pennsylvania wrestlers earned Gotham City Open medals two of which were Tournament Champions. At 97 lbs. Vayle-Rae Baker won her second Championship in as many days picking up a fall and two tech-falls en route to the title. Amanda Walker (Upper Moreland) followed it up with her second Championship winning the 105 lbs. title with three tech-falls an a fall in the finals.
