Pennsylvania Wrestling Will Have an International Weekend
While Pennsylvanians are busy celebrating the 4th of July Weekend multiple wrestlers from the Keystone State will be competing internationally. Three wrestlers are traveling to Lima, Peru to compete in the UWW Cadet Pan-American Championships (Photo from US Women’s Wrestling).
Wyoming Seminary’s Jake Hendricks, a 2016 National Prep Qualifier, will be competing for Team USA at 76 KG/167.5 lbs. in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle. Last month Hendricks placed sixth at the Cadet Freestyle Nationals and seventh at the Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals.
The All-American will be joined by 2016 National Prep Champion Michael Beard. The Malvern Prep grappler capped his sophomore season by advancing into his second straight National Prep finals and his first Championship title. Last month at the Cadet Freestyle Nationals Beard was a National Runner-up at 85 KG where he will be competing in Peru. Like Hendricks, Michael will be competing in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman for Team USA.
Also competing in Peru is Caitlyn Walker (Upper Moreland) who will represent Team USA in Women’s Cadet Freestyle. At the 2016 Women’s Body Bar Tournament Walker won the 38 KG weight-class uncontested and qualified for Team USA.
Former 4x PIAA State Medalist Jayshon Wilson (Carlisle/U.S. Marine Corps) will travel to Dortmund, Germany where he is set to compete in the Grand Prix of Germany on July 2nd. The USAW University Greco-Roman All-American is representing Team USA at 75 KG in Greco-Roman. The following week Jayshon will head to Madrid, Spain to compete in the Grand Prix of Spain.
