2x National Qualifier Te'Shan Campbell Transferring to Ohio State
PITTSBURGH – Te’Shan Campbell’s season just ended on Friday night in St. Louis when he went (2-2) at 165 lbs. in the NCAA National Tournament for Pittsburgh. It was his second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament for Campbell a 2015 graduate of Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh.
On Monday Te’Shan announced that he will be transferring from Pittsburgh to Ohio State next season. Campbell stormed onto the State and National Wrestling scene his senior season in 2014-2015 when he won a PIAA State Championship at 170 lbs. in his first trip to Hershey. Also an outstanding football player Campbell announced after the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic that he would be staying home to attend PITT.
“It wasn’t easy to leave, all I know at heart is Pittsburgh but my desire to be elite is so strong, I needed an environment change” Campbell stated.
It hasn’t been a good year for PITT who saw their head coach Jason Peters get fired after an off the mat incident surrounding members of the team at Midlands.
“After my coach Jason Peters was fired I decided to leave PITT. Ohio State was my first choice and when I got my release we spoke. I am excited to fight for a spot on the team and do whatever I can to help the team win in Cleveland at the National Tournament.”
In his true freshman season for the Panthers Campbell earned a starting spot at 174 lbs. and was a National Qualifier. This season Campbell made the drop down to 165 bs. and was an ACC Champion going (2-2) at Nationals ending his season (22-4). Campbell still has a redshirt year available to use.
