Nazareth's Sean Pierson Wins Monster 126 lbs. Bracket at CV Kickoff Classic

Mechanicsburg, PA – The CV Kickoff Classic featured programs such as Easton, Nazareth, Council Rock South, and Canon-McMillen – all top teams who will be competing at the highest level come March 2018. For now, however, the CV Kickoff served as a benchmark for where some of the State’s top wrestlers rank and also highlighted new talent.

The marquee bracket was 126 lbs. which featured five wrestlers all ranked Top 20 in the State with PIAA State Champion Doug Zapf (Downingtown West) headlining the group. Doug is up 20 lbs. from where he won his first State title in March but he has grown strong over the last nine months. In the semifinals Zapf took on 2x National Prep medalist Shane Hanson-Ashworth (Council Rock South) who spent his first two years of high school at Malvern Prep. Zapf advanced into the finals with a (5-3) victory where he would take on junior Sean Pierson (Nazareth Area).

Pierson, a PIAA State fourth place medalist in 2017, had to survive Canon-McMillan senior Logan Macri in the semifinals (2-1) before taking on Zapf. In arguably his biggest win of his career Pierson was explosive from his feet taking the win (5-3) over Zapf.

At 120 lbs. senior and Penn State commit Brandon Meredith (Spring Ford) defeated 2017 PIAA State Finalist Chase Shields (Bishop McDevitt) in the finals (3-1). At 182 lbs. returning PIAA State Finalist and Drexel commit #1 Josh Stillings (Pennridge) showed why he is ranked #1 in the State with a (8-3) decision over #7 Cade Wilson (Nazareth). District 3 rivals #6 Cole Forrester (Shippensburg) and #7 Dennis Karas (Exeter Township) continued their back-and-forth with Forrester coming out on top in the 220 lbs. finals (4-3).
