State Dual Team Rankings Updated Heading into Post-Season Action
The WPIAL Section Post-Season starts tonight and Power Rankings for District XI and District III are taking shape. Soon we will have a better understanding of where some of the State’s top teams will end up in their respective District Team brackets.
Class AA remains largely unchanged with Huntingdon moving from #16 to #9 after earning a (41-29) win over Penns Valley on Tuesday night. Wilson Area moves up four spots and will take on #11 Notre Dame – Green Pond tonight. New to the Top 25 include Forest Hills who moves into #19 and Philipsburg-Osceola coming in at #22.
The Class AAA Team Rankings have been causing me to lose sleep at night. Liberty beats BECAHI, Nazareth beats Liberty, and Kiski is undefeated. Kiski goes to #1 based on the fact they are undefeated returning State Finalists who have quality wins over #4 Burrell, #9 Seneca Valley, #13 Canon-McMillan and #20 Norwin. BECAHI looked great at Escape The Rock and Jeff Karam is back in the corner – which should prove to make a positive difference on the Golden Eagles. Only two teams get out of District 11 (that’s goos news for the rest of the State) and Nazareth could get State Medalist Nathan Stefanick back in the line-up for the team post-season. Northampton will likely be without State #1 Devon Britton who is out with an injury.
Outside of Cedar Cliff, District 3 is up in the air, with Dallastown taking control and making their State Rankings debut at #14. Cumberland Valley has been hot and cold – beating CD and losing to both Central Mountain and Mifflin County.
Cathedral Prep may be the most intriguing team in Class AAA. They haven’t quite been at full potential yet this season and, if they get the right pieces in place, could be a spoiler for District 7 and District 11 teams in February.
