State Dual Team Rankings Updated Heading Into PIAA State Tournament
Officially the 2019 PIAA State Dual Team Championships will kick-off on Monday night with preliminary round matches. Winners will advance into Hershey for the Championship First Round on Thursday. After a weekend full of excitement from around the State – PA Power Wrestling has updated the State Dual Team Rankings heading into action this week.
In Class AA it still appears two undefeated programs, #1 Reynolds and #2 Southern Columbia, are on a collision path as they are thankfully on opposite sides of the State bracket. Both #3 Saucon Valley and #6 Chestnut Ridge also have unblemished records. #5 Burrell, coming off their 13th straight WPIAL Championship, got some critical wrestlers back in the line-up last weekend which they will need this week. I wouldn’t look past District 3 Champion #13 Hamburg, who rolled through to their first ever District Championship with ease, or District 6 Champion #8 Westmont Hilltop.
In Class AAA #4 Liberty and #5 Nazareth will sit at home after #1 BECAHI and #3 Northampton Area earned the top two spots out of District 11. BECAHI got State Medalist Matt Mayer down to 113 pounds and can insert senior Nate Lackman in at 120 pounds to make them solid down below. Northampton, even without one of the top wrestlers in the State – Devon Britton, found a way to win true second in arguably the deepest District of 2019. #2 Kiski Area made some critical personal changes bringing Darren Miller down to 126 pounds which allows head coach Christ Heater to have much more flexibility in the middle-weights. #6 Cathedral Prep, #7 Council Rock South, and #8 Cedar Cliff all pose intriguing match-ups to anyone they will face. All three programs have balanced line-ups with hammers and grinders.
