Team USA Dismantles Team PA 34-9

Team USA proved superior on Sunday against Team PA with a (34-9) win at the Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh. Three matches were decided in overtime, all three were won by Team USA, and there was only 1 major decision and 1 pin in the dual meet, also both recorded by Team USA. The highlight match at 126 LBS between PA 4x State Champion Jimmy Gulibon and 4x Iowa State Champion Corey Clark was closer than the score suggested with Gulibon winning (10-3). After a first period takedown by Gulibon, Clark was able gain a reversal and tie the match 2-2 after one period. Gulibon went ahead with an escape in the second period, holding a slim 3-2 lead going into the 3rd period. Clark earned his own escape in the 3rd to tie the match 3-3. Jimmy Gulibon then did what he has done his entire career, he was relentless on his feet and from the top position. Gulibon earned a takedown in the 3rd period to go ahead 5-3 before rolling Clark up for 3 back-points and capping it off with 2 more back-points at the end of the 3rd period for the (10-3) win over Corey Clark. Clark had only lost 1 match in his high school career.

At 138 LBS Steve Spearman and John Meeks exchanged escapes in regulation before Meeks escaped to win the match (3-2) in ultimate tie-breaker. PA lost two more matches in overtime with Averee Robinson falling (5-1) in OT and Elliott Riddick getting downed (2-1) in ride-out. Besides Gulibon at 126 LBS, PA earned wins from John Rizzo at 220 LBS with a (3-2) win, while Brian Brill secured a (7-5) victory at 160 LBS. The other premier match-up of the night at 120 LBS between 3x PA State Champion Nick Roberts and 2x Ohio State Champion George DiCamillo proved to be a one-sided affair. DiCamillo was dominate on his feet rolling to a (10-5) victory.

At 182 LBS 2x Washington State Champion and Oklahoma State recruit Jordan Rogers provided Team USA with the only pin of the dual meet with a fall over Wes Phipps in 4:44.

Team WPIAL was also unable to hold off Team Maryland in the preliminary match falling (34-10).
