#1 BECA Wins King Of Mountain as Luke Pletcher Earns OW

Pennsylvania’s Wrestling stars were on full display at the King Of The Mountain and they did not disappoint.

Leading the way was Greater Latrobe senior #1 Luke Pletcher who claimed his third straight KOM Championship with an epic (7-5 SV) win over #2 Sammy Sasso (Nazareth Area) at 138 lbs. The two exchanged flurries throughout regulation before Luke was able to capitalize on a sweep single in sudden victory. The first battle of #1 vs. #2 came at 113 lbs. with returning PIAA State Champion #1 Tyson Klump (Nazareth Area) meeting #2 Jakob Campbell (Boyertown Area). Last season Klump won the 106 lbs. Championship while Campbell finished in third. The Boyertown Bear was firing on all cylinders in the Finals at 113 lbs. earning a (6-0) decision that was brought on by a Campbell cradle.

The Pletcher vs. Sasso match was one of four finals to feature the #1 vs. #2 State Ranked wrestlers. At 126 lbs. 2x PIAA State Champion #1 Luke Karam (Bethlehem Catholic) was able to finally earn his first KOM Championship with an impressive (8-0) major decision over #2 Ethan McCoy (Greater Latrobe). The win was extra special for Karam who last season fell to McCoy in the KOM semifinals (4-3).

The most impressive performance of the Tournament was no doubt junior #12 Jake Woodley (North Allegheny) who, from an unseeded position, took down four State ranked opponents en route to his first KOM Championship. Along the way Woodley took out #5 Gregg Harvey (Boyertown Area) in the quarterfinals, #8 Adam Soldridge (Bethlehem Catholic) in the semifinals, and #1 Jake Shaffer (Greater Latrobe) in the finals.

At 220 lbs. 2015 PIAA State Champion #1 Jordan Wood (Boyertown Area) was pushed by #2 Jacob Robb (Armstrong) who was a 2015 PIAA State Finalist. Wood and Robb battled, exchanging reversals, but it was Wood who came out on top (7-5). Despite the narrow score Wood appeared to be in control of the match.

The State’s #1 Class AAA program, Bethlehem Catholic, was able to earn the King Of The Mountain Team Championship finishing with 214 points ahead of Boyertown Area who came in second with 182 points. Head Coach Jeff Karam saw three of his grapplers win KOM Championship titles and a Tournament high 11 medalists. Despite missing 113 lbs. starter #10 Ryan Anderson and #10 Jody Crouse at 195 lbs. BECA was able to secure their fourth straight KOM Team Championship.

All 14 King Of The Mountain Finals matches will be uploaded to PA Power Wrestling’s YouTube Page.
