Shawn Bunch and Reese Humphrey beware. Coleman Scott isn’t planning on laying down come the Olympic Mini-Trial for the 60 kg/132 lbs. Both Humphrey and Bunch were exempt from last months Olympic Team Trials, in which Scott won, due to the United States failing to qualifying the 60 kg weight class for the upcoming Olympic Games in London. As it turns out, Bunch ended up qualifying the weight class while Humphrey, who is the #1 ranked USA Freestyle wrestler at 60 kg, sat out with an injury. The situation may be confusing for some but the bottom line is this…1. The United States will be sending a Freestyle wrestler to London at the 60 kg/132 lbs. weight class and…2. That wrestler will be either Shawn Bunch, Coleman Scott or Reese Humphrey. No date for a mini-trial featuring those three wrestlers has been announced as of May 14, 2012.

Meanwhile, Coleman Scott and eleven other USA wrestlers recently competed in the Freestyle World Cup that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan this past weekend (unsure where Azerbaijan is, click here). Scott, a Waynesburg, PA native, went an impressive 5-0 and helped lead the United States to a Bronze Medal finish with a strong 4-1 tournament record. Scott who was one-of-three USA wrestlers to go undefeated and defeated a tough Behnam Ehsanpour from Iran in pool play before downing Aleksandar Bagmaev from Russia in the Bronze Medal match. Iran won the 2012 World Cup by defeating host Azerbaijan in the finals.
