Post-Season Results and Highlights From Across Pennsylvania
Nine Districts from around Pennsylvania got the 2016 PIAA Individual Post-Season started over the weekend. Both Class AA and AAA saw several notable matches take place with State Ranked wrestlers meeting along the way.
The biggest result came in the District 6 Championship finals at 170 lbs. where recently dropped #3 Anthony Walters (Westmont Hilltop) upset #1 Jacob Oliver (Huntingdon) in the finals (3-1). Oliver, a junior, was a PIAA State Runner-up last season and recently returned to action after suffering a shoulder injury. Walters, a sophomore, was a PIAA State Medalist last season finishing 8th at 160 lbs. his rookie season. The pair could meet again in two weeks at the PIAA South West Regional Tournament.
#19 Garrett Kyner (Chambersburg) made a statement in the District 3 Section 1 Tournament at 138 lbs. defeating #8 Will Kaldes (Cumberland Valley) to claim the Championship (6-1). It was the second time this season that Kyner defeated Kaldes having picked up a (7-3) decision in December 2015.
A pair of the Pennsylvania’s top freshmen clashed in the District 3 Section 1 Tournament finals at 113 lbs. There #6 Kolin Myers (Boiling Springs) defeated #2 Bronsen Garber (Upper Dauphin) by a (6-3) decision. Myers is coming off two big wins over PIAA State Runner-up Aaron Burkett (Chestnut Ridge) last week at Team States. He continued the momentum this weekend with an impressive win over Garber.
At 182 lbs. sophomore Andrew Shedleski (Lewisburg Area) earned a takedown in sudden victory to upset #4 Gage Heller (Milton Area) in the District 4 Southern Sectional (3-1 SV). In the District 10 Section 2 Tournament unranked senior #NR Jared Miley (Hickory) defeated #5 Gene Ringer (Reynolds) in the finals at 285 lbs. (6-2).
