End of an Era: Easton Head Coach Steve Powell Set to Retire

For the last 32 years Steve Powell has been at the helm of a Red Rover program that set the benchmark for Pennsylvania Wrestling. Powell will go down in Wrestling History as one of the most successful coaches to grace the corner chair, not only in Pennsylvania, but the Nation. Photo from LVL file.

After graduating from West Chester State in 1976 Powell was hired to teach and coach at the Easton Area School District spending his first eight seasons as an assistant coach to legend Dave Crowell. When he took over as head coach in November 1984 Easton Wrestling was already on the map but Powell took the program to another level.

In his tenure at Easton coach Powell has amassed many incredible feats. He coached a total of 90 PIAA State Medalists, 19 PIAA State Champions, and tallied 534 dual meet victories.

LehighValleyLive’s Brad Wilson did a fantastic job summarizing Steve Powell’s coaching career and his “40 Years of Steve Powell” slideshow can be found here with the accompanying article found here.
