Freshman Takes out State's No. 3-Ranked Wrestler at Northwest Regional
Freshman Ed Scott of DuBois showed that experience isn’t always the biggest factor in a close match. The 12th-ranked 113-pounder staged an impressive third-period rally to beat No. 3 Geo Barzona of Central Mountain, 6-5, to win the Northwest Regional title in Class AAA on Saturday night in Altoona.
Trailing 4-1 in the third, Scott scored a reversal, then kept pushing Barzona to eventually scoring the match-winning takedown in the final seconds.

Altoona’s C.J. Manley, who is ranked second at 132 pounds, didn’t need any such late heroics. He scored a takedown in the first, another in the second and two more in the third to beat DuBois’ Koly Ho, who is ranked eighth, 9-5.

Top-ranked Trent Hidlay of Mifflin County was pushed by No. 6 Dazjon Casto of Cathedral Prep but came away with a 5-3 victory for the 160-pound championship.
