Pennsylvania Earns 10 NCAA Division III All-Americans

LA CROSSE – Much like the Keystone State results from the 2017 NCAA Division II National Tournament in Birmingham, AL – Pennsylvania Wrestling left La Crosse, WI with 10 All-Americans in the NCAA Division III National Tournament. While no National Champions were crowned in Wisconsin the 10 All-Americans from Pennslyvania all battled their ways to a top eight finish.

The Pennsylvania All-Americans all seemed to come in pairs from their respective schools. From York College senior Ryan Flynn (Marple Newtown) finished sixth at 133 lbs. in his third trip to the National Tournament while sophomore Greg Warner (Big Spring) earned his second straight All-American honors. Warner, who was fifth last season in the Nation at 141 lbs., came away with an eighth place finish in 2017.

Lycoming’s record setting duo Seth Lansberry (Line Mountain) and Nolan Barger (Clearfield) each ended their careers on high notes in La Crosse. Former District 9 stand-out Nolan Barger ended his career as the first ever 3-time All-American for Lycoming when he finished in sixth place at 165 lbs. Barger finished third in the Nation in the last two previous seasons and ends his career with a (139-28) record. Teammate Seth Lansberry, a former PIAA State Runner-up for Line Mountain, ended his career a 2-time All-American when he finished fourth at 149 lbs. Lansberry set the school record for wins with (145-23) in his career.

Messiah wrestlers Ben Swarr (Garden Spot) and Kyle Koser (Northern York) each came back with All-American honors. Swarr,  2016 NCAA Champion, returned to the National Finals at 174 lbs. where he had a re-match with Eric Devos of Wartburg. A season ago Swarr won the National Championship with a (3-1) decision over Devos but in 2017 dropped a (10-1) major to the undefeated Devos. Messiah junior Kyle Koser (Northern York) went 2-2 last season at Nationals but in 2017 he came away with a seventh place finish.

Waynesburg also earned a pair of Pennsylvania All-Americans as freshman Shaun Wilson (Waynesburg Central), a PIAA State Medalist in 2016, finished 8th place at 149 lbs. and teammate Jake Evans (Elizabeth-Forward) place 7th at heavyweight. Other All-Americans from Pennsylvania were Ty Herzog (Northern Lehigh) of Roger Williams and Ben Schweiger (North Allegheny) of Delaware Valley.
