LAS VEGAS – Jordan Oliver (Easton Area) leads a contingent of Pennsylvania wrestlers in Las Vegas at the 2017 U.S. Open (Photo of Oliver by Tony Rotundo of Wrestlers Are Warriors). The 3-time PIAA State Champion is the lone Keystone Wrestler who advanced into the Senior Men’s Freestyle Finals. Overall ten wrestlers from Pennsylvania are still alive.

In the Junior Men’s Freestyle eighth wrestlers are in medal contention with three wrestlers earning a spot in the Championship semifinals. Luke Pletcher (Latrobe), Kaleb Young (Punxsutawney) and Jordan Wood (Boyertown) will all be competing today for a spot in the U.S. Open Finals. 

In Senior Women’s Freestyle former Wilson High School wrestler Francesca Giorgio (Simon Fraser) advanced into the Championship Finals in a best-of-three against Women’s wrestling star Alli Ragan where she fell in two straight matches.

Senior Freestyle

 

Jordan Oliver has advanced into a a loaded 65 kg finals after taking out Kellen Russell before meeting 2-time NCAA National Champion Zain Retherford (Benton Area) in the semifinals. Oliver was down (3-0) to Retherford in the second period but stormed back to win (5-3) by scoring three points in the final eight seconds. Oliver will now face 2016 Olympian Frank Molinaro in the finals while Retherford will try to battle back for third.

2016 NCAA National Champion Nico Megaludis dropped a tough (5-4) match to Nathan Tomasello (Ohio State) in the quarterfinals. Jason Nolf (Penn State) nearly pulled a stunning defeat over World Medalist James Green at 70 kg. In the semifinals Nolf scored seven points but fell short (9-8).
