Pennsylvania will have several new faces competing with 13 freshmen registered to compete in the Super 32 including Mars Qualifier Champion Matt Sarbo (Altoona Area). Sophomore and returning PIAA State Medalist Kurtis Phipps (Norwin) will look to make some noise in Greensboro in addition to Wilson senior John Consorti who was a PIAA State Medalist in 2016. Consorti wrestled anywhere between 113 lbs. and 126 bs. last season so it remains to be seen if he will actually be down at 106 lbs. for the Super 32. Of the multiple rookies competing I will be keeping a close eye on former PJW State Champions Gary Steen (Reynolds), Conner Redinger (Quaker Valley), Amon Ohl (St. Joseph’s Catholic), Dylan Chappell (Seneca Valley), and Joey Fischer (South Park). Watch out for eighth grader Matt Vulakh who is the younger brother of PIAA State Medalist and Super 32 Medalist Ryan Vulakh (Pope John Paul II). 106 lbs. is a tough weight to predict with so many unknowns but I would be surprised if Pennsylvania came away with a medal based on the the field. Please prove me wrong! Pennsylvania has some serious contenders for top eight finishes at 113 lbs. with National Prep Champion and Wyoming Seminary sophomore Drew Munch leading the charge. Munch went (2-2) last season at 106 lbs. in Greensboro falling to Doug Zapf in the consolation round. Class 2A State Champion Beau Bayless (Reynolds) will look to make his name known on the National scene in addition to a pair of PIAA State Finalists in Ryan Sullivan (Shaler Area) and Josh Boozel (Mount Union).
Moon senior Frankie Bonura went (3-2) at the Super 32 in 2016 and was PIAA State Medalist in Hershey. He will be focused on impressing college coaches in the stands. Additionally there are five wrestlers at 113 lbs. who were State Qualifiers last season. The name fans will become accustomed to in the coming years is Ryan Crookham (Saucon Valley) who is only an eighth grader but already considered a top youth name. Crookham dominated his way to a PJW Junior High State Championship in 2017 at 97 lbs. Last season Crookham travelled to Greensboro and not only came away with a Middle School Championship Belt but also was named the Tournament’s OW. Crookham will be a threat to the veterans and could pull off some big time wins. Freshman Brock McMillen of Glendale, a 2017 PJW Junior High State Champion, is an established wrestler who should fare well.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container background_color=”” background_image=”” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” padding_top=”20″ padding_bottom=”20″ padding_left=”0″ padding_right=”0″ hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” menu_anchor=”” class=”table-test” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_separator style_type=”single solid” top_margin=”5″ bottom_margin=”50″ sep_color=”#59d600″ border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]

PIAA State Champions Jaret Lane (Southern Columbia) and Doug Zapf (Downingtown West) each fell short of a medal in 2016 with Jaret Lane falling to Minnesota stud Patrick McKee in the consolation round. In 2016 Logan Macri (Canon-McMillan) was a takedown in overtime away from being a Super 32 Finalist falling (5-3 SV) to New Jersey’s Robert Howard in the 113 lbs. semifinals and finishing in fifth place. This season at 120 lbs. Logan will be hoping to have the same success after earning his first PIAA State Medal in March 2017. A pair of District XI grapplers and PIAA State Medalists are each looking to separate themselves from the field. Cameron Enriquez (Stroudsburg) went (5-2) at the Super 32 last season and was sixth in the State at 113 lbs. last March. Nazareth Area junior Sean Pierson was fourth in the State and should challenge the top competition in Greensboro. Don’t sleep on yet another District XI wrestler with junior Brandon Kassis (Parkland) who owns a career win over Jaret Lane in the 2016 ETR Finals. He missed 90% of last season. A name fans will get to know is Zack Witmer (St. Joseph’s Catholic) who is a PJW Junior High State Champion and one of the top freshmen of 2017-2018. Undefeated PIAA State Champion Sammy Hillegas is moving up from 113 lbs. where he was last season as a rookie. Ironman Champion and National Prep Champion Beau Bartlett (Wyoming Seminary) makes it an even better weight class where he is looking to continue making strides. 2x PIAA State Runner-up Louis Newell (Seneca Valley) has committed to Pittsburgh and the senior will try to make his mark on the National scene. Sophomores and PIAA State Medalists Ed Scott (DuBois Area) and Andrew Cerniglia (Nazareth Area) add even more depth to such a deep weight. 3x PIAA State Medalist and recent Rider commit Chris Wright (Central Dauphin) is ranked #13 in the Nation by Flo and should be in contention for a top eight finish. Fellow District 3 wrestler Bronson Garber is hoping to improve on his performance at the Super 32 last season as the 2x PIAA State Medalist went (2-2) in 2016.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container background_color=”” background_image=”” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” padding_top=”20″ padding_bottom=”20″ padding_left=”0″ padding_right=”0″ hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” menu_anchor=”” class=”table-test” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_separator style_type=”single solid” top_margin=”5″ bottom_margin=”50″ sep_color=”#59d600″ border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]

PIAA State Medalist Bishop McCoy (Southside) is a senior but keep an eye on freshman Jalen Stephens (Meyersdale) who was a Runner-up at the Mars Super 32 Qualifier. Junior Michael Wolfgram (Central York) is a beast and should walk away from Greensboro with a medal. Sophomore Colby Whitehill (Brookville) impressed us at Fargo and could do the same in North Carolina.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_code]PHNjcmlwdCBhc3luYyBzcmM9Ii8vcGFnZWFkMi5nb29nbGVzeW5kaWNhdGlvbi5jb20vcGFnZWFkL2pzL2Fkc2J5Z29vZ2xlLmpzIj48L3NjcmlwdD4NCjwhLS0gU2lkZWJhciBBZCAtLT4NCjxpbnMgY2xhc3M9ImFkc2J5Z29vZ2xlIg0KICAgICBzdHlsZT0iZGlzcGxheTpibG9jayINCiAgICAgZGF0YS1hZC1jbGllbnQ9ImNhLXB1Yi00NjkzNDM5OTQ4NDUxNTYxIg0KICAgICBkYXRhLWFkLXNsb3Q9IjM0MDE2MDMzMzUiDQogICAgIGRhdGEtYWQtZm9ybWF0PSJhdXRvIj48L2lucz4NCjxzY3JpcHQ+DQooYWRzYnlnb29nbGUgPSB3aW5kb3cuYWRzYnlnb29nbGUgfHwgW10pLnB1c2goe30pOw0KPC9zY3JpcHQ+[/fusion_code][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
