State Runner-Up Chris Vassar commits to Gardner-Webb

Cedar Cliff senior Chris Vassar has committed to Gardner-Webb University and head coach Daniel Elliott. Gardner-Webb, located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina competes in the Southern Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Vassar was a PIAA State runner-up last season at 138 lbs. falling to 2x State Champion Steve Spearman (Erie McDowell) in the finals. Vassar has a tremendous freshman season where he upset Tyson Dippery at the South Central Regional Tournament to qualify for the State Tournament at 103 lbs. where the Cedar Cliff Colt finished in fourth place. In his senior season Vassar will be looking to earn his third PIAA State Medal most likely competing again at 138 lbs. for the post-season. In college Vassar projects to be a 141/149 lbs. wrestler at Gardner-Webb.

Other commitments made recently include Muncy’s star Troy Hembury, a 2x PIAA State Medalist who will attend Columbia next Fall. Hembury will seek his third PIAA medal this season after finishing in fourth and fifth the past two seasons. He projects to compete at  174 lbs. in college.  Central Dauphin senior Austin Rose, a PIAA State Qualifier last season for the Ram’s, has committed to wrestle at Drexel. He is just one of many solid recruits that Drexel has signed from the Class of 2013. Rose will seek his first PIAA State Medal his senior season and projects to compete at 157 lbs. in college.
