Pennsylvania Wrestlers Excel at Beast of the East; Crown 2 Champs

The 20th Annual Beast of the East Tournament was yet another success for Pennsylvania wrestlers at the University of Delaware. Pennsylvania Prep school Wyoming Seminary finished second behind Blair Academy and District 3 power Central Dauphin ended up in fifth place. Overall 30 wrestlers from PIAA member schools placed in the Top 8 including two Champions in Garrett Peppelman (Central Dauphin) at 160 lbs. and Ryan Solomon (Milton) at 195 lbs. Additionally five Pennsylvania natives competing for various prep schools finished in the Top 8 including Brooks Black of Blair Academy (Dover, PA) and Eric Morris of Wyoming Seminary (Mechanicsburg, PA) who both earned Championships. For Black, it was his third straight Beast of the East title and Morris’ second straight title. Four PA wrestlers finished as runner-ups and 106 lbs. was the only weight-class that a Pennsylvania wrestler did not finish in the Top 8. The biggest match-ups of Pennsylvania wrestlers occurred in Day 2 of the Tournament with many of the top wrestlers going head-to-head.

At 120 lbs. 2012 State Champion and #1 State Ranked in Class AA Darian Cruz (Bethlehem Catholic) defeated #1 State Ranked in Class AAA Sam Krivus (Hempfield Area) by a score of (3-2 in TB) in the third place match.

At 138 lbs. #5 State Ranked Patrick Duggan (Cumberland Valley) upset 2012 PIAA State runner-up and #1 State Ranked Tyson Dippery (Central Dauphin) by a score of (2-1) in the third place match.

At 145 lbs. #3 State Ranked Mikey Springer (Norristown Area) defeated #7 State Ranked Adam Smith (Manheim Township) by a score of (5-2) in the consolation round.

At 152 lbs. #4 State Ranked Austin Rose (Central Dauphin) upset 2012 State Champion and #1 State Ranked Garret Hammond (Chambersburg Area) by a score of (6-4 in OT) in the third place match.

At 160 lbs. 2012 State Champion and #1 State Ranked Garrett Peppelman (Central Dauphin) defeated #2 State Ranked T.C. Warner (Cumberland Valley) by a score of (4-2) in the Championship semi-finals.

At 170 lbs. #5 State Ranked Colton Peppelman (Central Dauphin) upset 2012 PIAA State Medalist and #3 State Ranked Joey Krulock (Mechanicsburg Area) by a score of (5-4) in the seventh place match.

At 195 lbs. 2012 State Champion and #1 State Ranked Ryan Solomon (Milton) defeated #2 State Ranked Ray O’Donnell (Saucon Valley) by a score of (3-1) in the Championship Finals.
