10 Must Watch Class AA State Tournament Quarterfinals
160 lbs #2 Jared McGill (Chestnut Ridge) vs. #4 Creighton Edsell (Wyalusing Valley)
This match at one time could have been a State Finals match. Edsell won a State title last year at 160 lbs. and won 40 straight matches before falling in the regional finals last weekend to sophomore Tyler Stoltzfus. McGill is undefeated this year and wrestled 170 lbs. last season where he took fourth in the State. My pick: McGill
138 lbs. #2 Caleb Dowling (St. Joseph’s Academy) vs. #8 Jason Jones (Saucon Valley)
Jason Jones has over 150 career wins and is in his fourth trip to the PIAA State Tournament but still in search of his first career medal. He will take on a sophomore who was fourth in the State last year. My pick: Dowling
220 lbs. #2 Dominic DeLuca (Derry) vs. #5 Hunter Poust (Muncy)
Dom DeLuca has been up and down this season but the returning State Medalist is hoping to be going up against Hunter Poust who makes his second trip to Hershey. My pick: DeLuca
132 lbs. #2 Joe Klock (Munc) vs. #4 Sam Sallot (Harbor Creek)
Senior Joe Klock is on a mission. Next in line for the senior is Sam Sallot. Both wrestlers were seventh place medalists in 2016. This will be a high intensity match. My pick: Klock
120 lbs. #3 Chase Shields (Bishop McDevitt) vs. #8 Ty Cymmerman (Derry)
The up-and-comer from the WPIAL is quietly becoming Derry’s Ty Cymmerman. The rookie will have a tough task with returning State finalist Chase Shields of Bishop McDevitt. This match should be a fun one. My pick: Cymmerman
145 lbs. #6 Gabe Miller (Pequea Valley) vs. #14 Tyler Griffiths (Southmoreland)
Gabe Miller was third in the State last season but has faced a series of setbacks the last two weeks. He will take on a stout senior who last season was a State Runner-up. My pick: Griffiths
113 lbs. #2 Wyatt Lutz (Montoursville) vs. #9 Blake Passarelli (Curwensville)
Wyatt Lutz is a long and experienced 113 lbs. senior who always seems to find a way to win. He will face a tough Blake Passarelli who is in his third trip to the GIANT Center.
113 lbs. #3 Nate Smith (Bishop McDevitt) vs. #6 Brock McMillen (Glendale)
Rookie Brock McMillen is the real deal. He will be on the podium all four years in my opinion. He will have his first real chance to prove his worth against #3 Nate Smith in the quarterfinals who last season was fifth in the State. My pick: McMillen
195 lbs. #7 Chase Dull (Bermudian Springs) vs. #8 Lear Quinton (Southern Columbia)
Chase Dull has continued to impress me at every turn but Lear Quinton is no slouch. This will be a one-point match. Both of these wrestlers are making their first trip to the State Tournament. My pick: Dull
145 lbs. #2 Kollin Myers vs. #4 Joe Demor (Southside Beaver)
Joe Demor has been disrespected all year long and this is a big test for him against #2 Kollin Myers who was a State runner-up two years ago. My pick: Myers
