Not So Sleepy: Five Takeaways from the POWERade Quarterfinals

#1 Alejandro Herrera (Seneca Valley) majors #4 Finn Solomon (Franklin Regional) at 113 pounds (10-1)

AHR looked like the State Champ who tore through the Ironman into the finals. He didn’t fall for any of Finn Solomon’s tricks as he collected the first takedown and never looked back rolling up the back-points.

#5 Jack Blumer (Kiski Area) defeats #22 Mac Stout (Mt. Lebanon) at 160 pounds (10-5)

Junior Jack Blumer looked poised and mature in a one-sided match that saw he expose the rookie Stout from neutral. Jack pushed the pedal as the match went on and showed why he is considered one of the top guys in the State.

#4 Darren Miller (Kiski Area) pinned #5 Patrick Noonan (Stroudsburg) at 132 pounds in (3:25)

Wow did Darren Miller look good. He won all the 50/50 positions and looked like a man on a mission. He bulled Noonan over and it’s not a surprise he is riding high as a senior.

#3 JJ Wilson (Cedar Cliff) defeated #11 Jordan Watters (West Allegheny) at 126 pounds (4-3)

Cedar Cliff senior JJ Wilson clawed and fought his way to a solid win over an ambitious Jordan Watters in the POWERade Quarterfinals.

#8 Cameron Robinson (Council Rock North) defeated Ricky Cabanillas (Depaul Catholic, NJ) at 145 pounds (10-8)

The top seed Cabanillas fell victim to a rising star in Pennsylvania with Council Rock North’s Cameron Robinson. The junior was a PIAA State Medalist last season but this win against Cabanillas really puts him on the map. Robinson broke him by getting five off a cradle early and thwarted a late come back from Cabanillas, securing a (10-8) decision.
