The Dual Team Post-Season has Arrived in PA
This week will mark the beginning of the 2013 Dual Team Post-Season as programs across the State compete in District Tournaments to earn a spot in the PIAA State Dual Team Tournament which takes place on February 4, 7, 8, and 9. The top in team in AA has remained the same throughout the season as Bethlehem Catholic will seek its third straight PIAA Class AA Dual Team State Championship led by senior Darian Cruz. The remaining three teams trophies are anyone’s guess but I expect District 3’s Boiling Springs to earn their second straight PIAA State Team Trophy and fellow District rivals Bermudian Springs and Biglerville both having strong tournaments. The District 10 Team Champion, who I predict will be Reynolds, has a series chance of making the finals with District 10’s runner-up, who I predict will be Fort LeBoeuf, eyeing third place. The District 4 Champion will run into Bethlehem Catholic in the quarter-finals and will have to wrestle back strong to earn a State Team Trophy.
In Class AAA returning State Champions Canon-McMillan will be the favorites to repeat but will most likely have to once again meet District 3 powerhouse Central Dauphin in order to do it. Central Dauphin will in all likely hood win the District 3 title and be placed on the top half and significantly less brutal portion of the bracket. While Canon-Mac, expected to earn the District 7 title, will land in the bottom half with District 11’s Champion and District 10’s Champion. Unfortunately District 10 only qualifies one team to the State Tournament as both Erie McDowell and General McLane have solid teams that could both earn a PIAA State trophy by the end of the tournament. With the return of two key seniors into Franklin Regionals line-up (Connor Medlang at 120 lbs. and Luke Fleck at 285 lbs.) they are now in the drivers seat to earn a PIAA State Tournament berth.
Below our my predictions on which teams will qualify for the 2013 PIAA State Dual Team Championships in addition to the brackets and/or information on each District.
