Impressive Results for PA Wrestlers at the U.S. Open

The 2013 Las Vegas/ASICS U.S. Open was full of excitement and cohesion in light of the Olympic Committee’s determination to drop Wrestling from the 2020 Olympic Games. The feature bout showcased Olympic Gold Medallist Jordan Burroughs go head-to-head with Penn State’s 3x NCAA National Finalist David Taylor which Burroughs won in two straight periods. Olympic Bronze Medalist Coleman Scott faced his toughest United States challenger in Reese Humphreys who Scott defeated in Times Square last summer to help earn his trip to the London Games. Reese was the winner in this bout however, defeating the Waynesburg Central native in two periods (2-0) (1-0).

Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson clearly sees Freestyle competition as imperative to success at the NCAA level as four current Nittany Lion wrestlers compete in the U.S. Open.
